West Windsor Revises Proposed Zoning Changes
After receiving much push back from residents on the proposed zoning changes that would have affected nearly 80 percent of all single family homes in West Windsor, the planning board broke down the rules into nine smaller measures. The board separated the rules after coming to the conclusion that the original two zones would have created an environment where people could purchase adjoining lots and subdivide them into smaller, denser developments. The board also felt that the proposed zones-in their original form-could have increased the likelihood of construction of very large houses on some of the township’s smaller lots.
The rules still bring the township zoning laws in line with West Windsor’s 2002 Master Plan, but now consider the character of each neighborhood and strive to protect it. The nine revised proposals will be presented again at the Planning Board’s May 14 meeting.
