State Transportation Funds for Vaughn Drive Connector in West Windsor Tied to Redevelopment Plan

The New Jersey Department of Transportation recently informed West Windsor Mayor Shing-Fu Hseuh that State funding for the Vaughn Drive Connector at the Princeton Junction Train Station will not be available until the township develops a mixed- use redevelopment plan for the west side of the Northeast Corridor train tracks. The Township was estimated to receive $19 million for the project, which would have covered roughly half the cost of the mile- long road.
The so-called Vaughn connector has been long- viewed as a way to ease congestion and increase flow between Alexander Road and Route 571. The road would give drivers the option to travel between the two major roads without having to use Route One or snake through the established neighborhoods that surround the train station. With the redevelopment plan still in flux, how and if the road moves forward remains to be seen.
